Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen will lead the annual Governor’s Walk on Friday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. at the State Capitol. The event begins with a brief news conference in the Governor’s Hearing Room followed by a 20-minute walk through the second-floor hallways. The news conference will be streamed live at www.NETNebraska.org/capitol/
The purpose of the Governor’s Walk is to highlight the importance of regular exercise and to encourage citizens to use the free, web-based WellPower Movement as motivation to achieve a healthier life. Gov. Pillen will give pointers as to how he and his family are able to stay active and will encourage Nebraskans to maintain healthy lifestyles.
Nebraska’s acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Matthew Donahue, will be on hand to share the many health benefits of regular physical activity as well as Nebraska’s current rankings in several health-risk categories.
Dave Mlnarik, Executive Director of the Nebraska Sports Council, will provide basic information on the WellPower Movement and other Nebraska Sports Council events and programs.
Other special guests include 2023 Miss Nebraska Steffany Lien, whose social impact initiative for the year is to promote strategies to improve physical, mental, and social wellness.
The Governor’s Walk is organized by the Nebraska Sports Council, a Nebraska-based 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote healthy active lifestyle choices, in collaboration with the Governor’s office and the Nebraska Health and Human Services department.
