Logged one mile on August 3, 2023. August 3, 1804 -- First official council between representatives of United States and western Indians occurs at Fort Atkinson north of present-day Omaha, when Corps of Discovery meets with small delegation of Oto and Missouri Indians. The American representatives were Meriwether Lewis and William Clark; Indians present were of the Oto and Missouri tribes. The site was "Council Bluff" near the present town of Ft. Calhoun.
